DC-3 Jumpplane in 1:87 Scale
One of the famous smokejumper airplanes was build in 1:87/H0 scale by Wolfgang Jendsch. A model manufacturer from Austria/Europe, Roco GmbH, created the kit of the former military freight airplane C-47 (DC-3 is the civile version) in smale scale (kit-number 1009), and Wolfgang Jendsch took colours and decails to design the model as an U.S. Forest Service jumpplane. Wolfgang, who worked as a PIO for the "International Lake Constance Fire Association" (BFB) and as a Special Editor for Fire- and Emergency Service in Germany, is the owner of more than 4000 selfbuild 1:87 models of international fire apparatus.
Two Douglas C-47 "Dakota" aircraft are currently used by the U.S. Forest Service. One of them is stationed on the McCall Smokejumper Base, one on the Silver City Fire Airbase, NM. In 1994, a "Dakota" jumpplane brought members of the Prineville Hotshots, who died at the South Canyon Fire in Colorado, back to Oregon.
